Eyelid Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Calabasas, Malibu, Agoura Hills and Camarillo

Blepharoplasty is a fat and skin removal eyelid surgery that corrects a condition known as ptosis. It is also one of the most common aesthetic surgeries performed in the United States. [1] Eyelid ptosis can cause drooping of the eyelid skin over the eye, or so-called “eye bags” situated below the lower lid. This sagging may give our loved ones the impression that we are constantly exhausted or run-down, or we may feel as though the sparkle we once had has faded from our eyes. The continued prolonged usage of muscles around the eye over time creates visible fatigue in the upper face, which can be distressing when we look in the mirror and can lead to further physical complications if left untreated.

Luckily, there is a remedy to this problem, and Azar Plastic Surgery & Med Spa offers an effective and long-lasting surgical solution to eyelid ptosis. Dr. Kouros Azar has dedicated his professional life to providing cosmetic services to his patients in the Thousand Oaks, Malibu, and Simi Valley areas for over a decade. He invites you to his state-of-the-art location in Thousand Oaks to experience eyelift surgery that could drastically transform your everyday life. We are conveniently located next to the 101/23 interchange. Schedule your consultation now by calling our offices at (805) 373-7073, or fill out our online inquiry form for more information.

What is Ptosis?

Ptosis is the sagging, in varying degrees, of excess skin over or under the eye, which may lead to visible drooping. Evidence also shows that the effects of ptosis are more than just cosmetic. Men and women with this condition often complain that they experience blurred vision and an increase in watery eyes, which can cause discomfort and interfere significantly with their daily lives. [2]

Ptosis can be caused by a pre-existing medical condition, or sometimes, one’s genetics. For example, double-eyelid blepharoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in Asia. [3] Much of the time, however, ptosis is a visible result of the aging process. This is known as acquired ptosis. Frequently, patients complain of the following symptoms:

  • An inability to see clearly out of one or both eyes
  • A drooping of the skin surrounding one or both eyes
  • A feeling of heaviness in one or both eyes
  • A marked difference in their facial appearance
  • Headaches from constant vision strain

Upper eyelid ptosis is measured by recording how much lower the upper eyelid has fallen from its regular anatomical position. There are varying degrees.

Mild Ptosis

Mild Ptosis is an eyelid droop< of up to 2 mm. Patients may experience some discomfort and minimal loss of eye function.

Moderate Ptosis

At the moderate stage, the eyelid is up to 3mm lower than anatomically expected. Patients may complain that they look sleepy, and their vision may begin to become impaired.

Severe Ptosis

The most serious level of ptosis can mean the upper eyelid is up to 4 mm lower than it should be. This can lead to a number of issues that interfere with vision. Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty procedures involve the repositioning and removal of skin and fat from around the eye. For your convenience, it is possible for an upper and lower eyelid lift to be performed in the same surgery.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Upper eyelid lift surgery involves marking the area, before making incisions along the horizontal plane of the upper eyelid creases. As a result, scarring is minimally noticeable. This also will allow Dr. Azar to make any necessary adjustments to the delicate muscles that lift the eyelid. Skin and fatty tissue are then carefully removed or sculpted until the desired effect has been achieved.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

With the lower blepharoplasty Westlake Village plastic surgeon, Dr. Azar, will take the transconjunctival approach; a popular technique, making an incision on the underside of the lower eyelid just below the eyelashes in the natural skin crease, and removing or redistributing fatty tissue for the desired effect.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

As with any surgical procedure, it is important to heed the advice of medical professionals and take good care of yourself afterwards. Following a blepharoplasty Thousand Oaks patients should schedule a period of rest, and ensure that somebody is available to pick you up when you are discharged. The newly altered tissues around your eyes will need time to adjust and begin the healing process. Some patients may experience the following short-term symptoms after eye lift surgery:

  • Sensitivity to light
  • Blurred vision
  • Watery or teary eyes
  • Puffy or swollen eyelids
  • Temporary numbness
  • Bruising and swelling

Although there may initially be some discomfort, a blepharoplasty is among the least painful facial cosmetic procedures. [1]

Blepharoplasty Results

Our clients notice clear differences in the appearance of their eyes once swelling has gone down and stitches are removed.
