Ears that are especially large or protruding can have a negative impact on a person’s self-esteem. Children are often subjected to frequent teasing that can cause lasting emotional harm.
Dr. Kouros Azar performs ear surgery, or otoplasty, in Thousand Oaks to change the size and shape of the ears for people of all ages. While the changes are subtle, the results are potentially life changing.

The Ears You Want
Dr. Azar performs ear surgery to make overly large ears smaller or place protruding ears closer to the head. He most commonly performs this procedure on children between the ages of 4 and 14, but it can benefit adults as well.
Dr. Azar performs ear surgery as an outpatient procedure. Children are usually put under general anesthesia, and adults have the option of a local anesthetic with sedation.
Some older children and adults may choose to have the procedure done in the office under only local anesthesia. He conceals the incisions on the back side of the ears and in the natural creases behind the ears.
Children are usually able to return to school and their regular daily activities after about a week; adults usually require about 5 days for recovery.
