Gynecomastia is a disorder of the endocrine system that causes the male breast tissue to swell. As a result, the chest begins to lose definition and appear less masculine. Reasons for this condition to develop can be caused by several factors including:
This embarrassing condition can harm a man’s body image and self-confidence. It may cause men to avoid days at the beach, at the gym, or in other settings. Regular dieting and exercise may help offset the excess tissue, but surgical intervention is usually the best option for permanently ridding the body of this unwanted condition. The procedure is performed by making an incision around the areola or the skin under the arm. Dr. Azar may perform liposuction to reduce the excess fat or combine the technique with another surgical technique to remove glandular tissue to sculpt a flatter chest profile. Dr. Azar is pleased to offer gynecomastia patients a non-surgical alternative called truSculpt. The minimally invasive process warms up the tissue at therapeutic temperatures to decrease the circumference and reduce fat cells around the male breast area. After 1-2 treatments, patients will see results that will bring forth a flatter, masculine projection in 4-10 weeks.
Gynecomastia surgery is for patients who are tired of living with the embarrassment caused by overgrown male breasts.

Patients will be given a personalized set of instructions to prepare for their gynecomastia surgery. Here’s what yours may look like:
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The exact process that Dr. Azar uses will depend on your needs. He may choose to combine both liposuction and surgical excision. This is an effective way to ensure the patient has a flat, even chest and to eliminate an inframammary fold, an area where the breast skin and tissue hangs over the chest. The breast tissue is usually removed using the Webster incision, which encircles the areola and avoids visible scarring. During the liposuction procedure, Dr. Azar inserts a narrow cannula under the breast tissue to aspirate the excess fat. The surrounding area may also need liposuction to sculpt a consistent new physique. Any incisions will be closed using sutures.
truSculpt is a minimally-invasive, fat-removing body sculpting technique that Azar Plastic Surgery offers patients as an alternative to traditional gynecomastia treatment. It is best suited to patients needing to remove a small amount of stubborn fat from the male breast. The applicator sends uniformed radiofrequency (RF) energy through the skin to penetrate subcutaneous fat. The heat generated from the RF waves destroys the fat cells beyond repair. truSculpt works with your body’s natural elimination process to remove fat cells organically over 6-12 weeks. Your body will remove the treated fat naturally, resulting in a slimmer, shapelier chest.
The recovery process will vary from patient to patient. As you leave our care, you will be given a compression garment that will protect your results and reduce swelling. We ask that you wear this for the next 2-3 weeks. You may also be given postoperative drains that will be left in place for several days. We’ll provide you with instructions on how to care for them. Pain medication will be given to manage discomfort. Refrain from rigorous exercise for at least 4-6 weeks.
Swelling, bruising, and discomfort should go away within 2 weeks.
Look forward to enjoying some significant changes in your day-to-day life: spend a day at the beach or pool and feel perfectly confident! After a gynecomastia procedure, you’ll be able to showcase your firm, masculine chest for years to come.
Dr. Azar will determine the final cost of your treatment at your consultation. Gynecomastia surgery is a customized treatment that involves several factors. All of your unique characteristics will influence the price of your treatment, and will be explored in-depth during your visit with us. Our office is proud to offer financing options to suit your budget.
