Skin tightening is a category of rejuvenation procedures that restore a youthful tautness to your appearance. Skin tightening can increase skin elasticity. Procedures can either be performed independently or as part of a comprehensive rejuvenation strategy.

The Path to a Refreshed Appearance

Our skin often reveals the initial signs of aging. Our skin can also change due to lifestyle choices such as excess sun exposure, smoking and diet. Sagging, loose skin is a common result of aging and the elements. When our skin doesn’t appear how we would like it to appear, we might struggle with self-esteem and feel less confident in social interactions.

What Is Skin Tightening?

Non-surgical skin tightening procedures restore taut skin to your face and/or body. The result is a refreshed, youthful appearance that better matches how you feel inside.

How Does Skin Tightening Work

Arm Skin Tightening Thousand Oaks CA

Dr. Azar has numerous skin tightening technologies for your face, neck, arms and other areas of the body to restore the firmness and appearance of your skin. His non-surgical options use energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the deepest layers of your skin. They can improve the overall tone and texture of your skin in many areas of your body, including your face, neck, and arms.

Benefits

Skin tightening can improve your skin’s firmness and tone, which men and women alike lose as they age. Benefits of non-surgical skin tightening procedures include:

  • Low risk of side effects
  • No scarring
  • Fast treatment times with no recovery
  • Long-lasting results

Our skin sags and loses elasticity because, as we age, the “scaffolding” that supports youthful skin begins to deteriorate. That scaffolding consists of collagen and elastin fibers. Collagen gives our skin a full, youthful volume, while elastin controls skin elasticity and is responsible for tight, taut skin. As we age, collagen and elastin production naturally slows down. To reverse the effects of aging on our skin, it’s necessary to stimulate greater collagen and elastin production. Skin tightening techniques aim to boost elastin and collagen production. Skin tightening results can take a few months to truly materialize because the body has to ramp up the production of collagen and elastin and rebuild that scaffolding network underlying the skin.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You’re a candidate for skin tightening if you’re in good health and between the ages of 30-60. Generally speaking, non-surgical skin tightening treatments produce superb results for a variety of skin types. Those who are dissatisfied with the appearance of loose, sagging skin do exceptionally well with non-surgical options. Patients taking particular medications or who have certain medical conditions may not be eligible for skin tightening treatments. Additionally, patients with excess skin or areas of the body that need a dramatic lift may achieve better results with surgical options. Dr. Azar will discuss your medical history before determining your treatment plan to achieve optimum results. Call us at (805) 373-7073 to schedule an appointment with our knowledgeable staff.

Preparing for Your Session

Preparation is simple. First, if the area to be treated has hair, it’s beneficial to shave the area beforehand. This ensures maximum benefit from the treatment. Second, make sure you have washed the area thoroughly before you come in. You don’t want specks of dirt to interfere with the treatment. For at least three days before your scheduled session, refrain from using topical products on your skin, such as those containing retinol, glycolics, or salicylic acid. Do not schedule Botox, dermal fillers, or other injectable treatments for at least 14 days prior to your session and for 14 days after your session. Make sure to follow any additional personal instructions provided to you.

Skin Tightening Options

Dr. Azar offers several FDA-cleared skin tightening treatments.

Radiofrequency (RF) Treatments

Profound RF and Secret RF Micro-Needling use radiofrequency energy to heat the skin and stimulate collagen production for a smoother, firmer appearance.

Lasers & Light Treatments

Our Lasers & Light Treatments resurface the skin to create a smooth and even complexion. They can also rejuvenate your appearance by removing dead and aging skin cells. Laser treatments heat deep layers of the skin to trigger collagen production. Patients love their smooth, youthful skin after a Laser Genesis or SmartSkin Laser session. For hyperpigmentation and spider veins, consider our Excel V Laser treatments.

Some treatments may require multiple visits to achieve the desired results. Dr. Azar will discuss your cosmetic goals for firming your skin so he can recommend the right skin tightening treatment. Skin tightening procedures aren’t painful — topical anesthetics are optional — and his team performs the procedure in a comfortable office environment.

Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery is quick and aftercare is easy. First, drink more water. Staying hydrated is always important, but after a skin tightening procedure, your skin will be more sensitive and susceptible to dehydration. So drink a lot of water. It’s also important to avoid the sun as much as possible. The sun dehydrates the skin and contributes to the sagging you want to correct. If you must venture out on a sunny Southern California day, wear a hat, stay in the shade, and put on broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 30 SPF. Avoid alcohol for a few weeks. Alcohol can interfere with your body’s healing process and lengthen your skin’s recovery time. Don’t scratch, itch, or rub your skin. This might seem obvious, but it bears emphasizing to ensure you take the best care of the treated area. You should also refrain from taking hot showers or baths. This doesn’t mean you avoid bathing altogether or use ice-cold water, but try to use lukewarm water as that will assist in your skin’s healing.

Enjoy Your Results

The newest skin tightening procedures have proven tremendously popular because they offer safe, reliable, and visibly impressive results.[1] Surveys report over 92% patient satisfaction, and clinical analysis shows a 96% rate of improvement in the area that have been treated.[2] Not satisfied with just 92%, Azar Plastic Surgery & Med Spa is committed to ensuring that all patients are happier after their procedure than before.
