Laser Skin Resurfacing
Over the years, signs of aging appear as a result of exposure to the sun, the effects of gravity and natural aging. The texture, tone and pigmentation of your skin can be affected, often resulting in unwanted wrinkles and fine lines, sun spots and larger pores. This look of premature aging can negatively impact how we feel about our appearance and how we are perceived by others. Laser skin resurfacing performed at our Thousand Oaks office can help you have smooth, healthy-looking skin again.
If you are wondering if laser skin resurfacing could be right for you, request a consultation with Dr. Azar to discuss the possibilities. Or you can call our office at (805) 250-0077 and one of our knowledgeable, friendly staff members will schedule your appointment.
A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Azar develops innovative surgical techniques and is dedicated to providing exceptional outcomes.
How it Works
Laser skin resurfacing harnesses the safe but highly effective power of the laser to penetrate the skin, removing damaged outer layers. Precisely controlled pulses of light energy target problem areas to effectively treat wrinkles, age spots, pigmentation irregularities, acne scars and other imperfections.
Laser skin resurfacing not only removes damaged layers of skin, but also works to tighten collagen fibers in the skin and restore elasticity, for skin that is firmer and younger looking.
Our SmartSkin® CO2 Laser
SmartSkin® laser fractional resurfacing optimizes treatment outcomes for our patients from Westlake Village, Simi Valley, and surrounding areas, while minimizing their recovery time.
How can the CO2 laser help your skin?
- Reduces wrinkles
- Treats brown spots
- Improves skin irregularities
- Smoothes and treats uneven pigmentation
- Treats dark under-eye circles
- Tightens the skin of the upper and lower eyelid all the way to the lash line
- Lifts the eyebrows to make the eyes look more alert and rested
- Reduces pore size
- Rejuvenates hand and neckline
Can the SmartSkin Laser be used around my eyes?
Yes. One of the amazing things about the SmartSkin laser is treatment of upper and lower eyelids. Since chemical peels are dangerous near the eye, the laser is the best treatment for tightening the upper and lower eyelids; lifting the brow without surgery and making you look more rested and alert. They eyes are protected during the procedure with a special safety shield.
How does it work?
Dr. Azar will use the SmartSkin laser to apply a series of tiny pulses of laser energy to your skin. As these microscopic holes heal, new younger-looking skin is revealed and collagen is stimulated deep within your skin.
How many treatments will I need?
You and your doctor will carefully determine the best course of treatment based on your cosmetic and downtime expectations. You may opt for 2 or 3 sessions with minimal downtime. Or if you have more time for downtime, experience dramatic results in just 1 treatment!
What does the procedure feel like?
A topical anesthetic is generally applied before the procedure, although your physician may recommend other approaches to make you comfortable. You will feel heat and tingling as the laser scanner moves across your face.
How long will the results last?
The entire face can be treated in as little as 15 to 30 minutes, with results lasting years with proper skin care and protection.
What should I expect following treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, your skin will feel warm and appear to be sunburned. Your body naturally starts working by replacing the aged skin cells with new ones. After a few days, you will notice a more even skin tone, smoother skin texture, and healthier-looking skin. You may see some redness and swelling which is completely normal. Over time, collagen will regenerate and restore the supporting structure of your skin. You may be asked to avoid sun exposure for a period of time.
What is the recovery time?
Because SmartSkin CO2 has the distinct ability to deliver micro pulses of energy, you will experience a significantly shorter recovery time than with fully ablative lasers. Each tiny hole will heal quickly and in 2 to 7 days, you will be able to apply makeup on the treated surface and return to your normal lifestyle. You and Dr. Azar may choose a more aggressive treatment regimen for more significant results with a downtime of 3 to 5 days with just a single treatment.
The Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
Prior to any laser skin resurfacing procedure, your skin will be prepared for healing with skin care products prescribed by Dr. Azar. If select problem areas are to be treated, local anesthesia may be administered. For complete facial resurfacing, Dr. Azar may administer general anesthesia.
Your face will be cleaned of any oils and treated with a topical antibiotic. The laser will be programmed to penetrate the appropriate layers of skin, depending on your needs. Once Dr. Azar has successfully removed the outer layers of your skin, he will apply a healing ointment to the treated areas.
Laser skin resurfacing has a lower risk of bleeding or other complications than other skin treatments such as dermabrasion and chemical peels. Contact our Thousand Oaks cosmetic surgery office today to learn more about restoring a youthful, healthy-looking appearance to your face.
