Chemical Peels

A chemical peel can improve the texture of your face by removing layers of damaged skin to reveal smoother, younger-looking skin. Dr. Azar uses a chemical peel to treat wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation irregularities and other skin imperfections. Chemical peel treatments can make your face look more vibrant and youthful.
Types of Chemical Peels

Depending on your skin's condition, Dr. Azar may recommend one of several types of chemical peels. At his Thousand Oaks practice, he offers alphahydroxy acid, trichloroacetic acid, and phenol chemical peel treatments. Each chemical works to remove various depths of skin layers to improve your skin's imperfections.

The alphahydroxy acid (AHA) peel is the mildest type of chemical peel available. Fruit acid, lactic acid and glycolic acid are AHAs and produce a light peel, making the skin look bright and refreshed. Especially if you don't have time to recover from stronger, deeper chemical peels, the AHA peel is an excellent choice because it requires little downtime.

The trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel provides medium-depth peeling of the skin. TCA peels are stronger than an AHA peels; they are designed to treat superficial blemishes, fine wrinkles and pigment problems. Dr. Azar can adjust the depth of the TCA peel to suit your needs. For optimal results, you may need more than one TCA peel.

The phenol peel is the strongest type of chemical peel offered at our Thousand Oaks practice. This type of peel is best for patients with more-severe imperfections, and can effectively treat coarse wrinkles, sun damaged skin and even pre-cancerous growths. While the phenol peel takes about an hour and usually involves several months of healing, it provides the longest-lasting results of all the chemical peel treatments.

Obagi® Blue Peel

The Obagi® Blue Peel is an exciting new way to refresh your skin by removing wrinkles, age spots and scars, and restoring elasticity. This peel, which includes one to four steps, involves the topical application of a trichloracetic acid (TCA) solution that essentially removes the outer layers of the skin and exposes the undamaged layers underneath.

After treatment, the skin is rejuvenated and appears fresher and more youthful. The Obagi Blue Peel has a natural pigment that limits the strength of the acid's effect on the skin, making this the safest chemical peel on the market.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is the controlled refining of the skin's outer layers, resulting in smoother skin. The appearance of skin imperfections such as fine wrinkles, deep acne scars and facial scarring from accidents and surgery can be significantly improved with dermabrasion.

Dermabrasion uses a motorized handheld skincare instrument and can be performed on isolated problem areas or used to smooth the texture of the entire face. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, several courses of dermabrasion therapy may be needed. For maximum results, dermabrasion may be combined with a face lift or chemical peel.

Facials

Indulging in a facial can make you feel pampered and refreshed. A facial is a superb way to remove toxins and impurities from your skin, as it deep-cleans and exfoliates, leaving your skin glowing and rejuvenated. An integral part of the facial treatment is a relaxing massage of the head, face, and neck.

Facials fortify your sense of well-being and contentment. Try one and experience the benefits of a facial yourself. Dr. Azar's Thousand Oaks practice offers several types of facials to soothe you and rejuvenate your skin.

Skincare Treatments

While disorders of the skin are extremely common, they can cause people to feel less confident. Dr. Azar has been helping patients with skin disorders such as rosacea and port-wine birth marks improve the quality of their skin and renew their sense of confidence. With personalized treatment plans developed by Dr. Azar, you can have the healthy-looking skin you desire.

Port-Wine Stain Removal

Birthmarks can make individuals self-conscious or embarrassed about their looks. Port-wine stains, or reddish to purple birthmarks, are commonly found on the face, neck and upper chest. According to the National Institutes of Health, port-wine stains affect three out of every 1,000 people.

Dr. Azar can improve the appearance of these birthmarks through surgical or laser techniques. Contact our Thousand Oaks cosmetic surgery office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Azar and learn more about treatments for dermal port-wine stains.

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a skin disorder that most commonly affects women during their middle years, although it can affect men or women of any age. At first, the skin may simply take on a reddish appearance-as often occurs with exercise, drinking or blushing. Eventually, however, rosacea sufferers often develop pimples and enlarged, unsightly blood vessels along with the redness.

The cause of rosacea is unknown, but there are several effective treatments available. Oral and topical medications may be prescribed, but the most impressive new treatment is done with the laser. Using a special pulsed dye laser, enlarged blood vessels can be removed quickly and painlessly, while reducing redness. If you suffer from rosacea, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible to stop the progression of this condition.

Scar Revision

Many factors determine the severity of scarring: the size of a wound, its depth, the blood supply to the area, and skin tone. No surgeon can completely remove a scar, but the appearance of most scars can be greatly improved. Scar revision is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of scars that do not respond to cortisone drugs or skin gels. Several techniques are available, including laser skin resurfacing, excision, and dermabrasion. Contact our cosmetic surgery facility in Thousand Oaks to learn more.
