Scar Revision

Many factors determine the severity of scarring: the size of a wound, its depth, the blood supply to the area, and skin tone. No surgeon can completely remove a scar, but the appearance of most scars can be greatly improved.

Scar revision is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of scars that do not respond to cortisone drugs, steroids or skin gels. Several techniques are available, including excision, dermabrasion, and laser treatment. Contact our cosmetic surgery office near Westlake Village to learn more.

Non-Surgical Scar Treatment

bioCorneum+

bioCorneum®+ is an advanced silicone treatment with SPF 30 for minimizing the appearance of scars while UV protection ingredients help guard the maturing scar from the aggravating effects of the sun, such as with erythema (redness) and hyperpigmentation.

bioCorneum®+ is used for the prevention and management of hypertrophic (raised, red) scars and keloids.  This silicone gel may be used on scars resulting from cosmetic and surgical procedures, trauma, wounds, and burns and is effective on old and new scars.

Once applied, bioCorneum®+’s patented gel dries within minutes forming an invisible silicone sheet over the affected area.  This breathable, flexible, waterproof layer binds with the stratum corneum (outer layer of dead skin cells), providing hydration and protection to underlying tissue allowing the scar to mature through normal collagen synthesis cycles.

The patented silicone formulation in bioCorneum®+ has been shown to flatten, soften, and smooth scars, reduce discoloration, as well as relieve itch, pain and discomfort associated with scars – both old and new.

bioCorneum®+’s patented, proven silicone technology and high protection sunscreens ensures the optimal healing environment for all scars and promotes aesthetic scar outcome.
