Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, eliminates excess fat and skin around the midsection, giving you a flatter stomach, trimmer waistline and sleeker, more-defined abs.
Tummy tuck procedures at our Thousand Oaks office begin with an incision from one hip to the other to create a flap of skin. This skin is then separated from the abdominal muscles. Next, Dr. Azar tightens the vertical rectus abdominis muscle of the abdomen to flatten the stomach and recontour the waistline. The skin flap is then folded down and excess skin is removed. Finally, the flap is replaced and the incision closed.
Abdominoplasty procedures typically take two to three hours, depending on how much excess skin needs to be removed to achieve the desired shape. Most of our patients who undergo abdominoplasty surgery visit our Thousand Oaks office for a follow-up visit and return to their normal daily activities within two to three weeks.
During your surgical consultation, Dr. Azar will go over pre- and post-op instructions and give you a better idea of how your recovery will proceed. As a tummy tuck is a major procedure, it is important for you to follow post-op instructions and rest after the procedure.
